Summerbridge, Mill Conversion

Utilising the main stone mill building with additional branches to the north and south has driven the proposed form. Additional structures are introduced adjoining the mill race and the eastern River Nidd boundary reflective of the coarse grain of historic industrial buildings.

The elevational style of the new dwellings draw reference to the mill and the form of a traditional workers cottage. A simple rhythm and repetition are proposed to the elevations.

New build elements to the Mill sought to reflect the historic size of the north wing (now demolished) both in terms of height and width. The stepped arrangement in building line and roof height references the historic former building.
